Famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa

At Hong Lim Food Centre, it’s brimming with hungry people seeking out good food on work days. Today was no exception.

There was a large brightly lit signboard calling out to me and I made my way there. It was also easy to spot by the long queue forming in front of it. It was the famous Sungei Road Trishaw Laksa.

Their signature dish is displayed prominently on their signboard, and that is their Asia Delight Laksa with crayfish. There is also a certificate displayed just below the signboard which was awarded to them for their culinary skills in preparing laksa.

Other than laksa, they also offer Mee Rebus and Mee Siam, but it seems that an overwhelming majority of their patrons order the laksa.

Prices start from $3 for a regular laksa, and from $6 for laksa with crayfish. You add a dollar more if you want to upsize your meal and they will give you more noodles and side toppings.

This is the $4 laksa without cockles. It had chicken, half an egg, one prawn sliced into 2 pieces, tau pok, beansprouts and fish cake. The laksa gravy was thick and flavourful. I was surprised to find chicken in my laksa as this is not a common ingredient in this dish. It was well cooked, but doesn’t soak up the gravy as well as tau pok and other regular laksa ingredients. Still, I was impressed that they made the effort to put in a variety of ingredients into this dish.

It was a good dish overall, and well worth the $4.
